About Thailand eSIM

The ETravelSim Thailand eSIM is a prepaid, data-only eSIM on the dtac network, with 5G where available and LTE elsewhere. Choose a data pack from 5 GB (7 days) to 100 GB (10 days), or an Unlimited plan for 7 or 10 days with no daily cap and no slowdown. Hotspot works on every plan, so you can share your connection with a laptop or a travel partner.

Your QR code arrives by email straight after purchase, so you can install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi. Validity starts only when the eSIM first connects to a network in Thailand. There is no Thai phone number: keep your home SIM for calls and OTPs, and call over WhatsApp, LINE or FaceTime.

Frequently Asked Questions about Thailand eSIM

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM, or embedded Subscriber Identity Module, is a virtual SIM card integrated into devices like smartphones and smartwatches. Unlike physical SIM cards, eSIMs are programmed remotely, enabling easy network switching and activation without needing physical swaps. They offer flexibility for changing carriers and plans, convenient international travel connectivity, and the management of multiple numbers on one device. While not universally supported, eSIM technology reduces the reliance on physical cards and simplifies the user experience by allowing remote provisioning of cellular services.

Is the Thailand unlimited eSIM really unlimited?

Yes. ETravelSim's Thailand unlimited plans have no daily cap and no fair-use slowdown: you keep full 5G/LTE speed on dtac for the whole 7 or 10 days, and hotspot is included.

Can I use hotspot with the Thailand unlimited eSIM?

Yes. Hotspot works on every Thailand plan, including unlimited, with no separate hotspot limit and no daily cap. You can share your connection with a laptop or a travel partner.

Does the Thailand eSIM include call minutes or a phone number?

No. The Thailand eSIM is data only: no Thai phone number, SMS or talk time. Keep your home SIM active for calls and OTPs, and call over WhatsApp, LINE or FaceTime.

Does eSIM work in Thailand?

Yes. ETravelSim's Thailand eSIM runs on the dtac network, with 5G where available and LTE elsewhere, so you're online as soon as you land.

What data options are available for the Thailand eSIM?

Choose 5 GB or 20 GB for 7 days, 50 GB or 100 GB for 10 days, or unlimited data for 7 or 10 days. Unlimited plans have no daily cap, and hotspot works on every plan.

How much data do I need for Thailand?

Light use (maps and messaging) for a week: 5 GB. Social media and video calls: 20 GB for 7 days or 50 GB for 10 days. Streaming, remote work or sharing a hotspot: 100 GB or unlimited.

How to activate the eSim?

After purchase, you will receive a QR code by email. Scan it with your phone's camera to install the eSIM on your device. The eSIM activates, and your plan's validity starts, when it first connects to a network at your destination, so you can install it before you travel.

How do I install the eSIM on an iPhone?

Your QR code arrives by email right after purchase. Install it before you travel, while connected to Wi-Fi:

  1. Open Settings → Mobile Service (or Cellular) → Add eSIM.
  2. Tap Use QR Code and scan the QR code from your email. If you can't scan it, tap Enter Details Manually and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the same email.
  3. Give the new line a label such as "Travel" and keep your home SIM as your primary line for calls and SMS.
  4. When you arrive, choose the travel eSIM for Mobile Data and turn on Data Roaming for that line.

Need more help? See our iPhone installation guide.

How do I receive my Thailand eSIM?

By email, immediately after purchase. The email contains your QR code, plus the SM-DP+ address and activation code in case you need to install it manually.

Which phones work with the Thailand eSIM?

Any unlocked, eSIM-capable phone, including iPhone XR/XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer. Dial *#06#: if you see an EID, your phone supports eSIM.

Does the Thailand eSIM work on the islands?

It works wherever dtac has coverage. Signal is strongest in cities and busy tourist areas; on remote islands and in national parks it can be patchy on any network, so download offline maps before you go.

Can I use WhatsApp with a Thailand eSIM?

Yes, WhatsApp works perfectly with a Thailand eSIM. You can:

1. Send and receive messages
2. Make voice and video calls
3. Share photos, videos, and locations

Your WhatsApp number stays the same since WhatsApp is linked to your phone number, not the SIM you’re currently using.

Is it cheaper to buy a Thailand eSIM before arriving or after landing?

Mr R P Berlie
Very good internet

The SIM was activated immediately upon landing at BKK and the internet speeds are some of the fastest I have experienced. I am fairly certain that calls were included in the package but when I tried to make a local call
I was not permitted to do so. A mild irritant but more than made up for by excellent internet speeds.

Mr Berlie, thank you for your feedback. We’re glad the Thailand eSIM delivered fast speeds and instant activation, and appreciate your note regarding calling—it helps us improve clarity for future users.
