eSIM Ватикана

Vatican City does not operate its own mobile network. Despite being an independent state, the entire 0.49 sq km enclave is covered by Italian mobile carriers — TIM, Vodafone Italia, WindTre, and Iliad — broadcasting from cell towers in surrounding Rome. The ETravelSim Vatican City eSIM uses the Vodafone network, which has independently rated strong 4G/LTE signal across Vatican territory. Functionally, this means the eSIM works the same way an Italian eSIM does inside Vatican.

Yes. Because the ETravelSim Vatican City eSIM rides on Vodafone Italia's network, it works across Rome (the Colosseum, Trastevere, Termini station, Fiumicino and Ciampino airports) and the rest of Italy on the same plan. This is useful because most Vatican visitors spend less than half a day inside Vatican territory and the rest of their trip in Rome or other Italian cities. Expect signal at the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Florence's Duomo, Venice's Grand Canal, and Naples on the same eSIM.

The product page indicates EU roaming is included with this eSIM, which means data should work when crossing into other EU countries like France, Spain, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, or Austria under EU roaming rules. Italian Vodafone-based prepaid plans typically include EU roaming with a fair-use allowance. Confirm specific EU country coverage and any roaming data limits with ETravelSim support before relying on the eSIM for a multi-country EU trip outside Italy.

The ETravelSim Vatican City eSIM connects in St. Peter's Square, the Vatican Gardens, and most outdoor Vatican areas with strong 4G/LTE. Indoor signal weakens inside the Sistine Chapel, deep within Vatican Museums, and inside St. Peter's Basilica because of the thick ancient walls and ceiling depths — this affects every Italian carrier equally. During peak hours from 10 AM to 6 PM in summer, networks across the Vatican area get congested due to the volume of tourists. Download tickets and offline maps before entering.

The ETravelSim Vatican City eSIM runs on Vodafone Italia, one of Italy's four major mobile operators alongside TIM, WindTre, and Iliad. Vodafone Italia has 99.9% population coverage and is independently noted for fast 5G speeds in Rome (averaging around 200 Mbps), with Vatican City benefiting from the same Rome-area infrastructure. For trips covering Vatican, Rome, and other Italian cities, Vodafone covers the routes most travelers actually take.

The ETravelSim Vatican City eSIM is listed as 4G/LTE in the product spec. Vodafone Italia has 5G across Rome, including the Vatican area, but this eSIM may connect at 4G/LTE speeds depending on the partner roaming agreement. 4G/LTE in Rome typically delivers 30 to 100 Mbps — fast enough for streaming, video calls, navigation, and remote work without issue. If 5G is essential for your use case, confirm with ETravelSim support before purchase.

For a typical 3 to 5-day Rome and Vatican trip with daily Google Maps navigation, ride-hailing on FreeNow or Uber, and casual photo uploads, 5 GB is enough for most travelers. A 7 to 10-day Italy trip combining Rome with Florence, Venice, or Naples usually needs 10 GB to 25 GB. Heavy users uploading content from the Vatican Museums or working remotely should pick the unlimited plan. Italy's app-driven travel ecosystem — Trenitalia and Italo train apps, ATAC bus maps, museum ticket QR codes — consumes more data than expected.

Validity on the ETravelSim Vatican City eSIM starts the day you begin using it, when your phone first connects to Vodafone Italia on arrival. You can purchase weeks in advance, install the QR code at home before flying, and the timer only starts on first connection. Installing at home is the safer option because you'll know before boarding the eSIM is set up correctly. Don't delete the eSIM profile after installation — reinstallation may not be possible.

The ETravelSim Vatican City eSIM is one of the few eSIMs in this catalogue that includes a UK-based mobile number (+44) with free incoming calls. This means anyone in the world can call your assigned UK number and reach you in Italy at no cost to you. Outgoing calls aren't included on this eSIM, so use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Skype for outbound voice. The UK number is useful for receiving callbacks from hotels, tour operators, or family who would otherwise pay international rates to reach you.

Hotspot and tethering are allowed on the ETravelSim Vatican City eSIM's fixed-data plans (5 GB, 10 GB, and 25 GB), but not on the Unlimited plans, which are designed for single-device use. If you need to share data with a laptop or another phone — common for digital nomads working remotely from Rome cafés — pick the 25 GB fixed plan. Tethered data draws from your plan allowance like any other usage.

Buying a local SIM at Rome's Fiumicino (FCO) or Ciampino (CIA) airport is possible — TIM, Vodafone, WindTre, and Iliad have kiosks in arrivals — but tourist SIMs typically require passport registration and a 15 to 30-minute queue, plus you'll need to swap your physical SIM. Airport SIMs also tend to be priced higher than the same operators' city-store offerings. The ETravelSim Vatican City eSIM installs at home before you fly, requires no passport handover, and connects the moment your plane lands.
